Our family vacation for 2010 was spent in and around Boulder, CO. It was our first visit to the area. My 21 year old son and I wanted to experience fly-fishing in the Rockies. After some serious due diligence, we booked a guided trip on a private stretch of the Big Thompson through Rocky Mountain Anglers in Boulder. When we booked our trip, they spent several minutes reviewing our experience level and desires, in order to pair us with a guide and pick a location to suit our needs. All I can say is "home run." Our guide, Garrison Doctor, was the perfect choice. He was punctual, knowledgeable, funny, informative, and a very skilled fly-fisherman. We fished a pristine stretch on the Big Thompson below Estes Park and didn't see another angler all day. We had multiple opportunities to catch fish and both landed and released several beautiful Rainbow trout. Garrison provided us with a perfect lunch of local fare. Homemade pickles, sandwiches and a sampling of beverages from a local micro-brewery. The day was a highlight of our vacation, and we came away with some great memories and several pictures that serve as desktop and screen saver photos to keep us smiling until our next vacation. If you are planning a trip to Boulder, and want a fly-fishing trip to punctuate a great vacation, I would highly recommend Rocky Mountain Anglers and Garrison Doctor. First Class.
